Aron Ralston, man who cut off his own arm to survive: Watch 'Today' show video

Aron Ralston was interviewed on Tuesday on the Today Show as a follow-up on his 2003 adventure that happened in southeastern Utah. Aron Ralston was on a mountaineering trip near Moab, Utah when a boulder fell on his arm trapping him in a canyon. Ralston had not told anyone where he was, and he assumed he would die there. He wrote his name on the canyon wall, and made a video saying good-bye to his family. He drank the last of his water, and began to drink his own urine to survive.

After being slightly delirious, he had the idea to cut off his arm and free himself. He was able to cut the soft tissue around the bone and then wedge his arm in such a way that he broke it off and freed himself from the boulder. His story of sheer will to survive became famous around the world.

The Today show is running a series of stories called the Buzziest Stories of the Decade and they chose this story to tell.  A movie is currently being made about Ralston's experience in Utah. He has an incredible, positive view of life. He views the whole situation as a great blessing in his life, and he said he wouldn't change a thing.  He wrote a book called, “Between a Rock and a Hard Place.”  And he is now married and having a baby.
