Aromatherapy scents unconsciously deters the munchies

The sense of smell can keep you from overeating throughout the day without thinking about it. Using the nose as a way to keep the munchies at bay and excess weight gain can be controlled by just getting a whiff of certain scent.

Sweet smells bring on the cravings

Smelling strawberry and vanilla scents made people want to run to the fridge or the nearest fast food joint. Sweet smells increase your appetite. Bananas, green apple and peppermint did the exact opposite and kept people from feeling the need to eat.

Most successful scents to deter over eating

Inhaling basil, lemon and oregano especially when hungry eliminated food cravings and the feeling of the need to eat something. Research showed inhaling the scent six times in each nostril suppressed the desire to eat. Dr. Hirsch or the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Institute of Chicago found that sniffing just three times per nostril was sufficient in keeping the munchies down to a minimum.

Aromatherapy oils

The essential oils should be changed daily to keep the strength for the best effect. Research also showed that using candles made from the same essential oils worked just as effectively. Using the oils just before eating kept the patients from overeating at mealtime. The idea is not to diffuse it into your space all day but to inhale the scented oil as you carve foods when you have already eaten nipping overindulgence in the bud.
