Aromatherapy 101: supple skin & lustrous locks

The triple digits are here and the mercury continues to climb! Now is the time to pay special attention to the care of your skin and hair. Aromatherapy and bodycare have been dancing a synergistic waltz for more than 4,000 years. Secrets to youthful beauty, using essential oils, have been passed down from ancient Egyptian and Asian cultures, for many generations. Egyptian Queens Cleopatra and Neferttiti were exalted for their beauty and known to practice aromatherapy.

"Essential oils such as rose, jasmine and frankincense are nature's own anti-aging ingredients," says Kathy Padecky, certified aromatherapist and instructor at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.

Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts from the aromatic parts of herbs, flowers, trees and grasses. They are wholly natural substances and believed to positively influence the mind, body and spirit. The beauty of essential oils is that they can be used or applied directly with a "carrier oil," such as jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is an excellent hair and skin moisturizer. It combines with the sebum of your skin and gently unclogs the pores. Jojoba oil contains myristic acid, which has anti-inflammatory properties, protein and a waxy substance that mimics collagen.

The Vegas Holistic Health Emporium, www.holisticunited.com/profile/vegasholistichealthemporium, is the place to get your custom essential oil blends by Certified Aromatherapist Monica Bickerstaff. Each custom oil is blended to fight the damages caused by free radicals and encourage anti-aging benefits. Call 702-219-0084 for your FREE 30 minute consult!

Supple Skin & Lustrous Locks Recipes:

Supple Skin: 4oz. Jojoba Oil blended with 7 drops geranium, lavender and rose absolute essential oils. Apply to face, after cleansing, day and night. This blend is light enough to use under makeup and for all skin types.

Lustrous Locks: 4 oz. Jojoba Oil blended with 10 drops peppermint, sage, rosemary, and ylang-ylang essential oils. Massage gently into scalp, let penetrate for 2 or more hours and wash/condition hair as usual. This blend promotes hair growth and healthy scalp.

NOTE: For both of these recipes, you should ONLY use therapeutic grade essential oils. To find out more about therapeutic grade essential oils, contact The Vegas Holistic Health Emporium.
