Bodybuilding gets flack by both the mainstream and the fitness industry. A lot is negative, while others try to protect the organizations and athletes the best it knows how. Events are set with rules and age limits to create fair play, and that includes the teen divisions. But Inga Molla, “stepped out” of the teenage group instantly when she won the bikini division at the Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid, Spain.
Molla entered the stage bronzed and beautiful, with slight curves and athletic legs. Molla demonstrated to the judges that she was ready to be the 2011 bikini winner with the traditional butt-out, come-hither over the shoulder smile. She also told the rest of the world she is only 14-years-old.
A 14-year-old wins the Arnold Classic Europe in Spain
A 14-year-old girl pranced among other women in a teeny bikini and wins the bikini division, which already receives loathing from all levels of the fitness industry. Loathing or not, this is not to say it isn’t popular. Bikini has been very popular since its birth, but a child winning the Arnold Classic Europe is another reason why people do not take the bikini division seriously.
How is the bodybuilding community taking this?
Bodybuilding forums across the internet have been on fire over Molla winning the Arnold Classic Europe. A strong percentage from a bodybuilding poll on Muscular Development do not agree with this win.
The bodybuilding industry is full of good things and dirty little secrets like any other business, but can you blame all of this on the bodybuilding industry?
No. The answer is no.
Perhaps the entry should have been denied? Blame the judges for choosing Mollo as the winner, but the real questions remains; what was Molla doing there? The forums have discussed in great length an important subject in this matter; the parental responsibility.
Where are the parents?
The parental responsibility of this young girl should have never let her step foot on stage. These competitions are for fun, and can boost your career, but bodybuilding is a harsh reality for some. Realities such as drug use, eating disorders, and body dysmorphic disorders are only a few of the issues dealt with in this sport.
Pedophiles, predators, and schmoes
It also opens the opportunity for those who would take advantage of a young, naive 14-year-old girl. There are predators waiting for the perfect moment to pounce and this offers a favorable opening. The predators I speak of are not only in the bodybuilding industry, but your everyday schmoes who walk the streets looking to entice and hurt a young woman and strip her of her youth.
Did Molla's parents think of this before allowing her to compete at the Arnold Classic Europe? Who knows? Regardless, a child was displayed in a bodybuilding division that is based on seductive beauty and sensuality. That’s pretty dangerous in the eyes of this parent.
