Arnel Pineda was born and raised in the Philippines. His mother died when he was 13 and Arnel Pineda found himself alone, and living with relatives and fending for himself on the streets of Manila. His mother instilled in his her love of music. At a young age, he joined singing contests to improve his singing and to help raise money for the family. For two years he lived on the streets, sleeping wherever he could. Pineda earned money by collecting bottles, newspapers, scrap metal and selling them. He would do odd jobs where ever he could.
At age fifteen, he started a band with his friends. He started playing in clubs and events in the Philippines. His sung songs for their cover band and sang songs from Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles, and Kenny Loggins. One of his friends made a video of Peneda singing and put it on youtube.
Neil Schon was looking for a lead singer for Journey after Steve Perry left, when he stumbled upon Arnel Peneda’s video. Peneda has been the lead singer of Journey ever since. Pineda has been on Ellen and was on the Oprah Show today to tell his story.
With Arnel Peneda as the lead singer for Journey, they traveled to Utah last summer to perform; along with Cheap Trick and Heart for Utah Summer Concerts.

That's funny, Arnel stated this all before the Superbowl last year...last year.
I read all the stories about Arnel Pineda? Man I've Got a Goose bump, I was carried away, he is the man for the Job. Great voice, if you don't believe him? leave him alone.
Actually, Perry wasn't the original lead singer of Journey. Before him, there was Robert Fleischman and after he quit the band he was replaced by Steve Augeri. Augeri eventually left due to health problems and Jeff Scott Soto became the band's frontman that immediately preceded Pineda.
