Lifetime has made a decision to cancel one of their most well-loved and successful series, “Army Wives.” Deadline reported on Sept. 24 that the network has decided to end the show after seven seasons on air. It became the longest-running show in the network’s history.
This is sad news as the series has quite a fan following that have been with them since the very beginning. The show centered around a small group of military wives, and a husband that fit right in with them, as they experienced life in the army. They shared many joys and sorrows, as well as the day to day life of their spouses on deployment.
Actress Catherine Bell was the last original wife to stay with the Lifetime series. The other original cast members, including Sally Pressman and Brigid Brannagh, came back for the funeral of Claudia Joy Holden. Kim Delaney did not return to her role as Claudia Joy, so the writers chose to deal with the death of her character last season. It seems that it was decided that this was the time to end it all for good. Even the arrival of three new characters, including Brooke Shields, was not able save the show.
Lifetime is planning on having the cast members come back for a two-hour ‘reunion’ show of sorts early next year. This decision was almost expected, even though fans held out hope that it would be able to continue.
How do you feel about this decision to cancel “Army Wives?”
