Over 40 Army Reservists were injured this afternoon, at least one of them critically, when a bus they were riding in overturned just east of Mooresville, N.C.
The 991st Transportation Soldiers based in Salisbury, N.C., were traveling on State Highway 150/152 when the driver lost control of the bus. State Troopers indicated the driver will be charged in the incident.
Weather conditions were not listed as a factor.
It is unknown who owns/operates the bus company.
Soldier-training kicked in and the uninjured Soldiers were able to assist with rescue and triage until emergency vehicles arrived on scene.
Fifteen Soldiers were transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte; the critically injured patient was airlifted to an undisclosed medical facility. Other Soldiers were treated at Mooresville's Lake Norman Regional Hospital and Iredell Memorial in Statesville.
The uninjured Soldiers were transported back to the Army Reserve Training Center in Salisbury.
