Arkansas Republicans override veto to enact unconstitutional abortion ban

Republicans across American ran for office on the platform of jobs, jobs, jobs. Instead of jobs, America has seen a surge in bills meant to restrict reproductive rights for women. Arkansas Republicans were so eager to pass their latest unconstitutional abortion bill, they overrode a veto in the process.

Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, a Democrat, vetoed a bill on Tuesday which would have banned abortions after the 20th week. On Thursday, the Senate jumped at the chance to enact the law. The vote was 19-14 along party lines.

These 20-week bans are often known as "fetal pain" bans. The idea is a fetus can feel pain during an abortion, therefore abortions should be outlawed as inhumane. The problem with the fetal pain position is that pesky science thing Republican lawmakers don't like. Research shows that a fetus does not feel pain until 25 weeks, at the earliest.

That hasn't stopped lawmakers from enacting harsher and harsher attacks against women's reproductive rights. The Supreme Court has already intervened several times, striking down laws that violate the Constitution and federal laws on the books.

That won't deter Republicans from attempting to further control women by legislation. If their latest ploy doesn't work, they'll move on to the next offering - fetal heartbeat.
