Here in the state of Arkansas, there is strong support for the 2nd Amendment amongst the people. The citizen’s right to keep and bear arms is even codified in the Arkansas Constitution under Article 2, Section 5, which reads, “The citizens of this state shall have the right to keep and bear arms, for their common defense.” Although the state government has not always been friendly to the rights of gun owners, recent legislation passed by the General Assembly have sought to respect these rights and have seemingly relaxed some of the restrictions on law-abiding gun owners, such as the allowing of concealed carry in churches and Act 746, which many believe allows for open carry.
If you live in the state of Arkansas, or know someone who does, or just generally support those who believe in our 2nd Amendment right, then you should check out and “like” the Facebook page Arkansas 2nd Amendment Supporters. They believe that the best way to keep the 2nd Amendment alive is through building strong support amongst the communities. Strong communities that support our rights will inevitably strengthen the state overall.
Their mission is to educate the people about the 2nd Amendment and the Bill of Rights. People who are educated about their rights tend to be more aware of the realities of the world around them, and are often able to help other people around their community and state to wake up and become educated and aware as well.
The Arkansas 2nd Amendment Supporters page stands firmly opposed to gun control. They rightly view these attempts by government to be more about control, and less about the guns. Those who seek to assert their control over the general population know that they must first disarm them. Their plans to disarm the citizenry are evident in their schemes to regulate through licensing, register all gun owners through background checks, which will eventually lead to confiscation, and the outright prevention of gun ownership in the first place through high taxes and regulatory hoops, as well as an ever-increasing list of people deemed “prohibited” from exercising their right to keep and bear arms. Through bureaucratic regulations and recent actions by the Department of Homeland Security and the ATF, they have sought to corner and control the markets for firearms and ammunition.
It is well known from just a cursory glance at history, that a disarmed citizenry is highly susceptible to the bullying and coercion so commonly exhibited by totalitarian and authoritarian governments. Conversely, a well-armed citizenry is quite capable of keeping their government in check and preventing outright tyranny or widespread abuse, by presenting an ominous threat those actions will end in their removal.
Obviously, nobody in their right mind wishes to violently overthrow the government. In fact, the vast majority of gun owners hope that they never need to use their weapons. It is vastly more preferable to settle our differences with the government through the ballot box instead of the cartridge box. However, the Founding Fathers were prescient enough to realize that such a possibility existed, and thus introduced the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution as a guarantee that no government could infringe upon our natural and inherent right to keep and bear arms, for the defense of self, property, rights and country.
Please visit the Arkansas 2nd Amendment Supporters Facebook page, “like” them and follow them, and show that you too support our right to keep and bear arms and will resist all attempts to infringe upon that right.
