The Arizona Sci-tech Festival held it's kick-off event on Saturday, February 4 at the Arizona Science Center. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony and the topic was innovations in bioscience featuring interactive activities.
300 organizations have partnered together to showcase Arizona's leadership in science, technology and innovation. Events will be taking place all over Arizona until March 14. There will be over 150 free events.
Here are some upcoming highlights from the festival.
February 3-5 at the Glendale Chocolate Affaire: Enjoy an interactive booth and learn about the science of chocolate with Dr. Francisco Vittarreal.
February 9 Tucson Gem and Mineral Showcase: this is the largest gem and mineral show in the US. Look for the junior education area.
February 10-12 Mesa Takes Flight Festival: take the family to interact with exhibits, flight simulators, performances, competitions and various projects at the Mesa Arts Center.
February 14 -16 at the Arizona Renaissance Festival in Apache Junction: kids can learn how the Renaissance period brought the age of scientific discovery and have a visit with Da Vinci and Galileo. There is also an opportunity to learn about the black plague and where it came from.
February 18 is Junior Archaeologist Field Day at the ASU Deer Valley Rock Art Center: Kids can investigate the past through fun activities at an archaological site.
February 19 is the 50th anniversary of the first American to orbit the Earth. This event will be celebrated at the Challenger Space Center in Peoria.
February 25 EightAZ PBS Sid's Super Duper Uper Schmuper Big Idea about Water's Journey: meet Sid the Science Kid at Herberger Park in downtown Phoenix and participate in hands-on activities and see screening of an episode of Sid's show.
March 3 A Day of Energy and Robotics: experience a day of robots, engineering, cars, and solar energy at Carl Hayden High School featuring the Falcons Robotics Team.
March 10-11 Tres Rios Earth and Nature Festival: an outdoor family event where kids can learn about the wildlife, habitat, history and culture of the Gila River Corridor in Goodyear.
Ongoing Art and Science Connect Tour: audiences will learn through discussion how artists use science to get viewers to see what the artist intended at the Phoenix Art Museum.
