Arizona motorcyclist Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot in head

Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head Saturday afternoon while hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" event at a grocery store in Tucson. Several others were also shot and some of them have died.

It was initially reported that Rep. Giffords had died but later reports said she is in surgery in critical condition.

Both President Barak Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner deplored the act. Said Boehner, "An attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve. Acts and threats of violence against public officials have no place in our society. Our prayers are with Congresswoman Giffords, her staff, all who were injured, and their families. This is a sad day for our country."

Rep. Giffords is a motorcyclist and is chair of the United States House of Representatives Motorcycle Safety Caucus. In a hastily issued statement from the Motorcycle Riders Foundation, the MRF described Giffords as "a true friend of the motorcyclists of this country."

There are many ways to die but to die from an act of violence has got to be about the worst.
