Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a controversial immigration bill into state law today. The law, meant to combat illegal immigration, orders immigrants to carry alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there's reason to suspect they're in the United States illegally.
The law is a moral failure on the part of the Arizona legislature and Arizona's Governor Jan Brewer. The law will result in Mexican Americans being reduced to second class citizens. The law represents a victory of fear and ignorance over truth, justice and the good.
The law is a sad and tragic mistake. The law will result in racial profiling. Police officers will look at race while investigating a person's legal status. It is inevitable. If you are brown, if you have an accent, you will be required to produce papers. If you are white you will get a pass.
The law, which will take effect in 90 days, will make it a state crime to be in the country illegally. The measure would require migrants to produce papers verifying their status when asked to do so by a police officer. The law also targets those who hire illegal immigrant laborers or knowingly
President Obama strongly criticized the Arizona legislation and called for a federal overhaul of the nation’s laws instead. Speaking at a White House naturalization ceremony for active duty service members Obama said:
"Our failure to act responsibly at the federal level will only open the door to irresponsibility by others. That includes, for example the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans."
The law will turn Arizona into a police state reminiscent of Nazi Germany. It is a disgrace and a tragedy. If there ever was a time and place to stand up to oppressive and overreaching government authority, it is now in Arizona.

Hey liberal...in 2004 the voters of AZ voted in a tough on illegal immigration law with HALF of the LATINO vote for it. You're obviously a TRAITOR to the US and Mexico's rise to being a prosperous nation. Illegal immigration also affects The Mexican Republic because it literally creates "ghost towns" where everyone has left for the US. Plus there's the chance that terrorists could cross the border and do some real damage to the US FAR worse than 9-11.
The FBI says that Al-Qaeda may already have anthrax stashed in the US somewhere and just 4 pounds of it can kill 350,000 people. Again, you don't know jack about the situation on the border. This law does not make it a crime to be in Arizona illegally, it takes the handcuffs off of law enforcement officers and puts them on the criminals. Anyone who enters the U.S. without a visa or other LEGAL means is here illegally, this makes them criminal aliens and as anyone with a modicum of brain matter knows criminals do not deserve any rights.
We need to close our borders to any and all illegal activity and if that means the Governor declaring Our State's Rights to Sovereignty then so be it. I think people who throw around the "commie" word as an insult to liberals probably are not very educated, and don't know what a real communist is. There is nothing communist about Obama. Having said that I DO think he is more of a socialist than anything else. I support Arizona. As citizens we have to carry ID and present it to police when they ask. What is the difference? If you are a Mexican American and live in an area with large amounts of illegal Mexicans then blame them for breaking the law. People are quick to criticize the government for enforcing laws but when they are victims, they criticize the government for not being more pro-active. Oh and my parents and sibling are immigrants who came to this country legally, learn the language, became voting citizens, and are small business owners. So I think I know what it is like to be an immigrant in America.
