Jameelah Adams, a 22-year-old mother of three, was threatened by the father of her two-younger children recently at their daycare. He told her that he would push her down the stairs along with her five-year-old son. Ms. Adams was shocked and horrified that Eian Roundtree filed paperwork for a Protective Order and a Restraining Order along with sole custody. Mr. Rountree was given temporary custody of the children until their October 3rd court date. She has been able to visit with them about once a week for a couple of hours in a local McDonald's restaurant. What is wrong with this?
Besides the fact Ms. Adams has no prior arrest or bad acts of any kind, but the children’s father does, is shocking. Page one of Mr. Roundtree’s arrest record shows he was arrested for assaulting a police officer in May of 2010 and featured on a popular Phoenix website of mug shots for another assault charge in Jan. of 2011, (phoenixmugs.com, 2013). He has also been allegedly accused of a DUI and other assaults to include physically attacking Ms. Adams when she was 9-months pregnant. According to Deanna Frias who CPS chose to foster Ms. Adam’s children and has been involved in the case for the last couple of years stated he stole the children from daycare and filed paperwork for sole physical custody of his 3 and 2-year-old. He lives with a cousin and his girlfriend and their children in a two-bedroom apartment. According to Ms. Frias the babysitter Mr. Roundtree found on Craig’s List told her the children are woke up at 3am in order to get them to her house before Mr. Rountree goes to work and that they eat dinner around 8pm. Ms. Adams has a two-bedroom apartment with no roommate and a job that is normal working hours where her church daycare takes them in the mornings and she retrieves them in the evening.
Ms. Frias stated the orders through CPS were for dad to pick up children at mom’s home and she would pick up children from his home. Ms. Adams always waited outside the door and kids would run to her. She actually picked them up one in each arm that is when he threatened to knock her down the stairs into her “Stupid bitch son.” Jaivon, who is five and Ms. Adam’s oldest child, “Ran in my house saying, Mama D, Eian threatened my mom and called me a stupid bitch.” Ms. Frias said the restraining order was put in place the next day by Ms. Adams. Mr. Roundtree disputed the restraining order and the judge took the children off the restraining order at this time. Mr. Roundtree did not use the same daycare provider as the mother. He called his CPS worker, and even though the file was closed, CPS provided Mr. Roundtree with the daycare address. He then went to daycare and advised them per his case worker he was there to pick up the children. This is when he filed for sole temporary custody but the mother has never legally been served. Ms. Frias was told Mr. Roundtree has also hired an attorney.
Ms. Adam’s is currently seeking help through the Maricopa County Family Advocacy program. She needs a giving lawyer to help her win this battle for her children’s sake. It would be wonderful if an attorney handling family and civil court issues could work with her to file paperwork needed and represent her, as she pleas her case before the judge. My best wishes and hope is for her to be reunited with her children soon. And, that the law would error on the side of best parent not who has the most money or representation.
