Arizona cracks down on illegal immigrants with new bill

As unemployment continues to rise lawmakers are looking for ways to slow the joblessness rates within cities and states. New Arizona legislation calls for illegal immigrants to be charged with trespassing as a way to tackle the state’s jobless issue and help put Arizona citizens back to work.

The new law, the toughest in the country, would ban illegal aliens from residing in the state without legal papers. The state lawmakers have chosen the battle and will most likely sign into law the first bill that essentially criminalizes the presence of the 460,000 illegals living in Arizona.

The legislation allows law enforcement officers to detain people on the suspicion that they are illegal immigrants, completely outlaws citizens from employing day laborers and makes it illegal to transport undocumented workers anywhere in the state.

Those in favor of the crackdown suggest it’s the large illegal population that is contributing to the high crime and unemployment rates, many of whom say they are forced to enact tough new laws because the federal government has failed to enforce the immigration laws already on the books.

"When you come to America you must have a permission slip, period," said Russell Pearce, Arizona State Senator who sponsored the bill. "You can't break into my country, just like you can't break into my house."
"It will be, there's no doubt, the toughest immigration enforcement bill in the nation," said Pearce.
In a story from ABC News, immigrant right’s groups are already gearing up for a fight.

"The really dangerous impact is the creation of a new state crime related to trespassing. If law enforcement has a reasonable suspicion that someone is undocumented they can be stopped and forced to prove they are a U.S. citizen. If they can't prove it, they can be arrested," said Jennifer Allen, director of the Border Action Network, an immigrant advocacy group.

Advocates for the tough new legislation contend law enforcement officers aren’t going house to house arresting illegal immigrants, by creating a law that "eliminates all sanctuary policies," closing the loophole for illegal immigrants to work or even be present in the state would force illegals to leave on their own, Pearce says.

The new bill will add teeth to current laws and Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has affirmed she will sign the bill into law when it reaches her desk.

Pearce said Arizonians deserve and expect to “have a constitutional right to expect their rights and laws to be enforced.”

This past week the Maricopa County Sheriff’s office raided four McDonald’s fast food restaurants looking for 50 illegal immigrants who were working using false identification.

Identity theft is a chronic and widespread problem Americans face. Once U.S. identification is stolen, charges from fraudulent purchases and earnings from a paycheck Americans haven’t incurred begin to demolish credit histories and cause major headaches to citizens. The arduous task of repairing their credit often takes months to fix and could damage their credit history for years.

When it comes to the employment situation, many who steal identities will take 100 percent of their paychecks leaving the taxes to be paid by the unsuspecting victims who find out when the IRS knocks on their door.

The Arizona legislation is expected to be signed into law within a couple of weeks and illegal residents can expect America’s toughest Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, to enforce the new law.

It is worse than a shame that presidents, senators and representtives since 1986 have deliberately allowed 12 million to 30 million low-life dregs from all nations to freely invade and occupy our country. These elected fools should be asahamed of the mes they've created for Americans. Arizona will, hopefully, be the cutting edge for states to protect Americans where Washington refuses to.

I agree! Then why is Obama trying to Legalize Illegal Aliens? They are called "Illegal" for a reason! Oh wait, he wants to fill the pockets of our greedy politicians by having them pay taxes. And don't forget African Americans and Latinos are more likely to vote democrat! Mo money and mo votes!

It will be Sherriff Joe Arpaio, Senator Pierce & Governor Jan Brewer in the History books for setting precedent to PROTECT America. THANK YOU Arizona Residents & Government!

I am a 3rd generation Mexican-American and a Veteran. I wish the state I lived in would do the same. Illegals and there sympathisers have managed to blur everything by not calling it what it is Illegal. I remember hearing my gradfather talking about Mexicans who thought the U.S. belonged to Mexico, an his response back then was right; "we would only have a broken Country like Mexico" most Mexican are to ignorantly arrogant to admit that, which will unfortunaly perpetuate the problem. The generations of Illegals from Mexico that took advantage of the first amnesty have really dug in by indocrinated there children to carry on as in Mexico which we all know how that will turn out just look at th truth.

    Good Job Arizona

Finally, real leadership! Thank you Sherriff Arpaio, Senator Pierce & Governor Jan Brewer for taking such a critical step to safeguard the future of America. It will be the State of Arizona & their brave residents in the History books.. setting State precedent that protecting America & American citizens is more important than buying votes through social programs. As they say, Republicans want cheap labor, Democrats want cheap votes. That is why we have this mess!!

Activists & all of those in support amensty.. GET out YOUR checkbook.. because American Citizens are not signing ANY MORE.

GO Maryland - no to funding of $500,000 to FIND/SUPPORT/ASSIST illegal immigrants JOBS!! You may want to check to see what YOUR State has been paying for!!! YOU - The people can STOP the funding of ALL local programs.. GET TO WORK!!
God Bless The United States of America!

You are fostering a major misconception about the immigrant population. They are rarely if ever involved in identity theft, the kind where one person trades on the credit of another. Rather, what happens here in Arizona, is that a person simply uses a social security number so that they can get employed. The overall effect is that these folks cover a huge portion of the social security deficit with no prospect of ever reaping any benefits from their work. For the individual whose number is actually used, they may reap a benefit to the extent that they might get a bigger social security check. Please stop propagating misinformation.

Go Arizona! Rack em, stack em, and deport em!

"William Richardson" below is smoking crack. Give up the drugs man, they have rotted your brain! Illegal aliens are CRIMINALS, period! Go enter Mexico illegally and see what happens. You'll be in jail taking "Spanish" lessons from a 260 lb. guy named Jesus.

Mexico wants our land, pendejo! Wake the Hell up! Google Reconquista and educate your warped Liberal brain.

  • JSmith2341 2 years ago

Mr. Richardson, will you be posting your SSN and those of your family members so that individuals who are looking for employment can use these SSN to obtain employment. Also, if the IRS exmanines your family's tax records looking at income that was not declared when you filed your return but was earned by individuals using these SSN will you also pay any/all associated penalties to the IRS for this income that was earned using these SSNs but not declared on your tax returns?

I really hope the rest of this country will wake up and follow AZ's lead on this. Anyone in doubt on the effects of illegal immigration should come out to the high desert of CA, where a once beautiful land is rapidly becoming a wasteland of litter, booming bass cars, theft, and violence. America has enough problems of our own, we don't need another country's garbage flooding in with a sense of entitlement. Every politician should be required to spend a month or two living in one of our border towns, then let them try and tell us how 'good for our country' illegal immigrants are!

  • MrJibaro 2 years ago

We need to take back our country. Everyone should do their part. Go to www.reportanillegalalien.com. One illegal at a time is a good start.

That is great. It is time to stop illegal immigration. Illegals do not have rights in this country. The cannot demand amnesty. It is time to stop listening to illegal aliens and their friends. Start enforcing current immigration laws. Let's clean this mess.

American Rancher Rob Krentz Murdered By Illegals in AZ:

"The Krentz family has received numerous threats in the past by illegal aliens trespassing on their property. In 2002, the family was physically threatened when one of them stumbled upon a group of 39 illegal aliens. They were told to get off the land and they made threats. The Border Patrol did catch the illegal aliens after they were called, but we all know that illegal aliens, if deported, come right back across."

Joyce, let's hold the embraces until we get the more recent legal immigrants assimilated. We need to stop ALL immigration for a time to accomplish this. We have become a tower of Babel with, for the first time in history, another language made equal to our own, even to political ballots. I wrote on mine: "why are non-English speaking people voting?" Let's rise us against illegal immigration and amnesty as we did at the tea parties against highter taxes and the uproar on Obamacare. We'll eventually win and our nation will once again be what our forefather intended.

Sickening what you some Californians think. I'm almost ashamed to call it my home state after reading these fear-mongering comments. Arizona is the most backwards state in this country with the statistics to prove it. This bill is the most horrendous thing I have ever heard of. Thank goodness there are some people in AZ with morals and a conscience to fight it.

  • levotb 2 years ago

No one here has mentioned the very negative side effect of illegal AND legal immigration--anchor babies, children and adults.

Due to a purposeful misinterpretation by an earlier liberal SCOTUS, U.S.-born children of illegals are considered U.S. citizens. As it will take years to change that law, we must push ICE/DHS to arrest and deport illegal alien WOMEN and not release them back into our society "for humanitarian reasons". Doing so allows them to drop their anchors, making it more difficult to deport them. Men cannot bear children; it's the illegal alien women that are changing the demographics across the nation by breeding like rabbits.

  • Rich 2 years ago

After this law is passed, thank God we have Sheriff Joe here in Maricopa County to enforce this law. Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon loves our criminal illegal aliens.

  • Peggy 2 years ago

My dear friend, Rob Krentz was murdered by an illegal immigrant when he stopped to render aid to him! I can't handle any more excuses about "they aren't here to hurt anyone, they just want a better life"! Mexico needs to take care of their own. I applaud Tony's comment (above). I am proud that my home state of Arizona is willing to make a stand on immigration.

  • Randolph 2 years ago

William Richardson, you are ignorant. If somebody uses my SSN to get a job, their earnings get reported as my earnings. Let's say I earned $50,000 in 2009. So I file my federal tax return with that amount as my total income for the year. Then I get a call from the IRS and they say that I actually earned $80,000 and they want to know why I didn't report the other $30,000 on my tax return. Well as it so happened, that extra $30,000 was earned by an illegal alien living in another state who somehow get ahold of my SSN. But the IRS doesn't care how or why it happened, they just want the extra taxes on my $80,000 earnings. It's up to me to straighten out this mess with the Social Security Administration and the IRS so I don't end up paying a large amount in penalties and fines, and maybe a tax lien against my house.

You make it sound like it's no big deal if an illegal alien uses somebody else's SSN, but it's a big deal for the person who has to spend his time sorting out the mess.

I cannot believe that some individuals think this is a backwards state or backwards legislation! If it were you and your livelihood being attacked, even murdered by illeagal ailiens on your own property such as what just happened to an Az rancher this past weekend you may change your mind and realize the threat is real, not just fear-mongaring ideas! My family came to Az legally from Mexico, so can the others! It is time for the united states to take back their constitutional rights from the liberal federal government who only wants to grant citizenship for the illeagals in order to have the necessary votes to keep them in liberal power positions! Wake up America! Your freedoms are being stripped from you one right at a time and your taxes are being used to take care of individuals who are thieves, where are their morals and their conscience about robbing every US citizen...even the liberal ones? If liberals want them here, only tax them to pay for it,see how their tune will change!

Jennifer Allen is a total wack job. During the first week of the MinuteMan Project in Arizona she actually went on the radio and said that U.S. citizens should not be allowed to patrol the border with an mandate to "observe and report(illegal aliens)," but that illegals from all over the crashing our borders should be invited in.

Jennifer, please, if you are reading this, get some help.

  • TL Winslow 2 years ago

All countries have a right to control their borders etc., but when it comes to our next-door neighbors in Mexico, all attempts to seal up the 2K-mi. border are doomed and only swamp the system. If the U.S. really wants to firm up its borders it should consider expanding the border to the seas by incorporating Mexico as 10+ new states under the U.S. Constitution with the consent of the people on both sides, allowing all 414 million Americans to finally be on the same team. Mr Pearce, you cannot equate breaking into your house with working here without authorization. In fact, if those workers weren't here, you likely wouldn't have your house.

I mourn the death of the rancher, that is bad, and you cannot blanket criminalize brown people because he was murdered. Hard economic times always find the threatened ones scapegoating the "other". Scapegoating-based legislation will not solve the economic problems, never has.

  • Bobby 2 years ago

I saw the idiot and American fifth columnist, Geraldo Rivera, on TV interviewing Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He started off by saying welcome sheriff Joe, good to see you again!!(LIE) He then spent the next few minutes harassing this law officer sworn by law to do his duty. But the Sheriff stayed cool, calm, and collected, and told Geraldo, the fifth columnist for Mexico, that he will continue to do his job and arrest those here illegally and or breaking the law. At the end of the "interview", it was only Geraldo who looked red faced and stupid.

  • Bobby 2 years ago

Pred, your'e an idiot. Who in the hell do imagine in your little brain, built the whole United States of America? Let me guess, illegal aliens that have come here in the last few years. Right?!! What a moron.

The "other" are illegal alien lawbreakers and criminals, which are comprised of foreigners of different races, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, cultures, etc. The only people being criminalized are those people who are committing crimes.

Gee, for years the Looney Left has been telling us Sheriff Joe's "out of step" with ordinary Arizonans...well, now we know they're dead wrong! When a broad cross-section of the legislature says it's time to get tough, and a governor who isn't afraid of the twin evils of the Cheap Labor Lobby and the Bleeding Hearts typified by J. Allen agrees, then the days of illegal aliens thumbing their noses at American citizens may be numbered. Expect the Usual Suspects of Anti-Americanism including the ACLU, LaRaza, MALDEF, and the dispicable SPLC to file suit. They love lawbreakers...you mere citizens can go Pound Sand!

  • BajaRat 2 years ago

All loyal Americans mourn the loss of Mr. Krentz, the Cochise County rancher who was murdered in cold blood... most likely at the hands of one or more loathsome illegal aliens. Citizens should remember this the next time you hear vermin like Lindsey Graham, Raul Grijalva, Jen Allen, Isabel Garcia, and the rest of that treasonous mob who constantly demand amnesty for these border-jumping parasites. These miscreants have blood on their hands. The border should be land mined.

  • Bobby 2 years ago

BajaRat, excellent post. I couldn't agree more with your comments on Graham and the rest of the traitors. The fact that these people keep getting elected, unfortuntely says more about those voting for them than it does about the worthless politicians like Grijalva, Graham, McCain, etc. We know where they're coming from but what about some of these voters!! Unreal.

  • ForOurChildren 2 years ago

Amnesty will only encourage more illegal immigrants - how can anyone not see that??1? Aren't those pushing for Amnesty AFRAID to LOSE their jobs to the rush of new illegal immigrants that come in - the companies fire the employees if they have to pay more (predators are predators, no law will change that!)

The Bio ID card will NEVER work since CASH, Rent, Food can be used instead of a Payroll check. And what agency is going to physically go around and audit/count the employees against the payroll ledger? Sweet justice will be when those granted Amnesty LOSE their jobs to the new, illegal immigrants coming here in the MILLIONS once amnesty is allowed! As for American citizens now, we have been too busy watching TV & letting others speak for us.. it is our own fault & it probably is already too late. Very sad for our children's future.

  • ForOurChildren 2 years ago

Get ready California.. and those in support of Amnesty.. they will have to go somewhere when the Tresspassing Law has passed. I hope ALL 460,000 go to the Sanctuary cities (San Francisco) in California.. and lets see what they REALLY think about it. I PRAY to GOD Arizona gets this legislation passed .. so should anyone who care about their childrens' future. End Birthright citizenship, STOP all local funding for illegal immigrants. Secure the borders and NEVER EVER Amnesty!

If you are illigally in the US you should be deported, i am from Dominican Republic, it is my dream to live in America but i want to do it the right way if Americans would welcome me.

My grilfriend is also Dominican, he is a legal resident allian in the Us, She is studying english and already have a job.

No foodstamps for us i tell her, we dont go to America to ask we come to America to give, but it is sad that this is not what mos hispanics are doing, the go to America to complain and to burden social services and that is just shameful, they dont even learn english, they dont do well in school, they get pregnant to to get foodstamps, and they call 911 even when they dont have emergencies.

This people make decent legal hispanics look bad, so if you want to go to the Us wait until the Americans allow you in or else you should be deported period.

Americans must stand firm against Racist Laws crafted by ANTI-IMMIGRATION HATE GROUPS (KOBACH-FAIR).

"Lawful contact” does not apply solely to law enforcement but to ANY “AGENCY” of “THE STATE", or a county, city, town or other political subdivision,”

    SB1070:

“ FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS LAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON.

Arizona Anti-immigrant law was written by KRIS KOBACH a lawyer at the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League have listed as an anti-immigrant hate group since 2007. US citizens should take the law into their own hands and use their hunting rifles and pick them off one by one as they cross the borders. Fire from roof tops, tree tops, vehicles. If the so-called border patrol just catches them then sends 'em back on a bus, maybe when the Mexicans start seeing their buddies coming back in body bags that will put a halt to all this crap. Do the damn paperwork and stand in line, else stay in your own filthy, dirty, backward country. We already have enough of our own hillbillies and slackers and bums, thank you.
