The Arizona cop illegal immigrant news story is raising for many the question of how it is possible that an Arizona cop is an illegal immigrant and that no background check ever discovered it. To make matters worse, not even the Arizona cop herself knew that she was an illegal immigrant, reported Fox News Latino on Dec. 12, 2013.
When Arizona cop Carmen Figueroa grew up as a little girl, she was always told that she was born in the United States.
Believing that she was a United States citizen, Carmen Figueroa worked in southern Arizona for 10 years as a Tucson-based Highway Patrol officer and in 2010 became a criminal investigations detective.
Carmen Figueroa’s career fell apart when her brother, who is serving in the United States military, applied for a passport and the State Department discovered that the Arizona cop was in reality an illegal immigrant born in Sinaloa in Mexico.
After confronting her mother and finding out the truth that she was an illegal immigrant and that she was brought to the United States when she was young, the Arizona cop resigned from her job as Arizona police detective.
According to a statement made on Wednesday by Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves, after it had become public that the Arizona cop was an illegal immigrant, if she would not have resigned herself, she would have been fired.
“Arizona law requires sworn police officers to be U.S. citizens, and Graves said the state police agency would have terminated her for fraud and misrepresentation for ‘not meeting the qualifications’."
A criminal investigation against the Arizona cop who is an illegal immigrant is being conducted.
