A 10-year-old boy died this morning in a Tucson, Arizona, hospital as a result of being strangled by his mother last week inside the family's home.
John Cataline passed away this morning, eight days after being rushed to the hospital unconscious, when his mother reportedly strangled her son with an extension cord.
On the morning of January 30, 2013, officers responded to a residence regarding a 911 call from a female who advised she had just strangled her 10-year old son.
"Upon arrival, officers located the boy inside his residence suffering obvious signs of trauma," officials said in a press release just a few minutes ago. "Officers immediately began emergency first-aid on the child until personnel from the Tucson Fire Department arrived to assist. The boy’s mother was taken into custody inside the residence without incident, and John was transported to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries".
Detectives from the Dependent Child Unit then responded to continue the investigation. They determined that the boy's mother, 49-year old Jean Cataline, was the only person home with her son at the time of the incident. Cataline was booked into the Pima County Jail for one count of Child Abuse and one count of Attempted 1st Degree Murder.
Shortly after he son's death this morning, Jean Cataline was charged with one additional count of 1st Degree Murder.
