Arizona angler bags 30-lbs of bass at Falcon Slam

The West’s newest rookie brought the big bass at the 2nd stop of the 2013 Bassmaster Elite Series as Josh Bertrand of Gilbert, Ariz. broke a 30-lb sack on Thursday at the Falcon Slam. “It caught me by surprise; because it is only my second time here and it wasn’t a good practice,” said Bertrand. “It was still a grind; but I was lucky enough to get a couple good ones in the morning and then another couple good ones in the afternoon.”

The Arizona angler noted that he got seven or eight fish for the day, culling a couple of times for his Day One weight of 30-5. He also commented that the fishing was tougher than it usually is at the lake and he was feeling pretty good about Day Two.

“I’m not going to change anything,” he stated. “I would be crazy to change anything right now. But, what a difference a day makes and there is a lot of good guys out here that caught ‘em today. I’m just going to go out and try to catch five.”

A Lone Star State local Keith Combs led the pack with a phenomenal five weighing 34-13.

The event continues tomorrow through Sunday, March 24 with a launch time of 7:15 a.m. CT and a first flight weigh-in of 3:15 p.m. CT.
