Arielle Puuri is a rising star in the Michigan music scene. With her unique sound and growing fan base, the folk-pop artist is learning that in this ever changing industry it is important to focus on the passion behind the music. Fame can be temporary but if the right melody and chords can be hit, it is the music that can last forever.
Puuri described the Michigan music scene and how it is differs than most, "What I love about the Michigan music scene, is that people are driven by their love of music. It's less about billboard hits, and fame seekers, and more about passion. We have such a great indie music scene!"
Michiganders have taken notice of Puuri's unique musical sound and passion. Puuri infuses folk pop with a reggae vibe, in order to create her honest and authentic sound. Fans have been drawn to the acoustic feel and honestly that can be felt in Puuri's music but Puuri always remembers to stay humble and focus on the music itself. Even when asked about her future, Puuri wants to focus on the creation process. "I love adventure and change, I love meeting new people, I love traveling, so wherever music or anything else takes me, I'm totally game for it. For now i'll just keep on performing and making and listening to music," detailed Puuri.
When passion and creation is the main focus it is no wonder that Puuri is a rising star to watch in the Michigan music scene.

C: When did you first discover music?
A: Music is in my blood, I was born into a family who has such a passion for music. I come from a Puerto Rican Heritage, so I grew up dancing salsa and merengue, with my mom and relatives. I always loved the way music made me feel, like I could be anyone I wanted and do anything I wanted. And there's my dad. He introduced me to the Beatles, along with so many great artists. We used to dance around the house singing songs like, build me up buttercup and yellow submarine. Or we would write our own songs. We wrote this song called, Nobody loves you more then I do and we would sing it in front of the mirror everyday for as long as I can remember. The lyrics weren't that impressive but it was so catchy, that I still find myself humming it from time to time. My mom dances, My dad sings and writes, my oldest brother is a musician and singer, my other brother is a singer and dancer, my little brother is a writer and a little future Drake. It's impossible not to love music, and be around my family.
C: What would you consider to be some of your most notable music influences at a younger age?
A: I have always loved all music, and almost all genres. I can find something I love about everything. So it's hard to really pinpoint influences, because I get inspired by everything and everyone. I did have this Christina Aguilera phase though, where I thought she was perfect and would try to do every run and note of Genie in a bottle, which i later found out isn't about Aladdin. I also may or may not have reenacted the Oops I did it Again Music Video (Britney Spears), at a talent show, and don't even get me started on my love for *NSYNC. At a younger age, I also loved the oldies(but goodies). The Beatles, temptations, Etta James, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Etc. Thank you Dad for giving me an appreciation of all music at such a young age.
C: In a few words, how would you describe your musical sound?
A: It's kind of a folk pop, at times acoustic and/or reggae thing, packed with honesty and authenticity.
C: What musical influences do you pull from when you are performing or writing music?
A: Hardest question ever. I really love Ingrid Michaelson. She is such a talented singer- songwriter. I also love Colbie Caillat, The Good Mad, Kina Grannis, The Good Mad. They all convey their emotions so pointedly. It's so easy to feel what they feel when listening to their music. I love music for so many reasons. To dance to, to drive to, to makeout to, to laugh to, but the music that really just makes you feel. That's the best kind.
C: You are gaining quite a large following in Michigan, what was the process of coming up in the industry like?
A: It's so cool! I'm really blessed that I have been able to just do what I love, and have peoples support in it. So far almost everyone I have met in music, has been so nice and full of great advice. I've met so many great people who share my passions, so that's been awesome! No matter what happens, I'm having such a great time, and enjoying life and all it's beautiful moments and people, and that's what matters.
C: How would you describe the Michigan music scene?
A: What I love about the Michigan music scene, is that people are driven by their love of music. It's less about billboard hits, and fame seekers, and more about passion. We have such a great indie music scene! Michiganders get crazy at our music festivals like Common Ground, the folk festival, jazz festival, Electric Forest, etc. We just soak it all in. We go to shows of bands we've never heard of, just to hear music because we love it so much. I love that.
C: How do you feel social media has helped and will continue to help your career?
A: As much as technology drives me crazy sometimes, it can really be awesome. Without social media, it would just be me, showing my parents the newest song I wrote. But now I get to see people from all over the world on Reverbnation, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, listening to my songs, and telling me their opinions. It's so cool when someone from a different state or even country will tell me that they heard my song, and really related to it. I love that.
C: What does your future hold?
A: Well I obviously can't say for sure, but I can assume it will be filled with adventure. I love adventure and change, I love meeting new people, I love traveling, so wherever music or anything else takes me, I'm totally game for it. For now i'll just keep on performing and making and listening to music!
