According to a Jan. 27 report from, critically-acclaimed Canadian journalist Ariel Helwani addressed the rumor regarding him being on shaky ground with FOX Sports and the UFC.

Helwani, 31, has been covering MMA professionally since 2006, and he has since become one of the most respected writers in the field.

Unfortunately, Helwani saw rumors swirl on MMA forums that he had been dismissed as a journalist for FOX Sports, after he was spotted in the crowd at the UFC on FOX 10 event in Chicago, rather than in his usual seat on press row.

During the Jan. 27 episode of "The MMA Hour," Helwani addressed the rumors.

"I'm a reporter and all of a sudden people are asking me questions, like I'm part of some kind of story, and it was uncomfortable," Helwani said on his show. "People writing to me on Twitter, writing about me, writing things on forums and other places and whatnot, it was just very strange to be a part of.

"So here's what I'll tell you, and I'll tell you this because I feel like most people would just kind of ignore it. I can't ignore it for two reasons: a) because look I'm an honest guy and b) because I'm known for being the guy who asks questions, the tough questions, all that stuff. So it would be hypocritical for me to just ignore all the stuff, the chatter that was going on."

Helwani said he won't be at UFC 169 or 170. Also, he said it's no big deal that Dana White "unfollowed" him on Twitter. Besides that, he says everything is exactly the same as it was before.

"Here's what I'll tell you and kind of break it up into two departments," Helwani explained. "One, at some point, before my days are done, at some point you will find out exactly what was going on. I promise you that. That is a promise from me to you. But here's what you need to know and here's the most important part of it all: I still work for I'm right here doing the job and I'm damn proud of it. I still work for FOX Sports.

"I was on UFC Tonight last Wednesday, I'll be on UFC Tonight this Wednesday. I won't be on next week because there's no show, but I'll be on the week after that and the week after that and the week after that. I'm not going anywhere. I still do the weigh-in shows. I still do the post-fight shows. I still do the pre-fight shows. All my jobs, the jobs that I had on Dec. 31, 2013, I still hold today. And that's the most important thing."

Helwani said he has still has his UFC credentials and that he has no idea why he wasn't invited to Dana White's pre-fight media scrum at UFC on FOX 10.
