Ariel Castro was found hanged in his prison cell on September 3 around 9:20 PM. This is according to a report by The Columbus Dispatch which was reported on September 4. You may know Ariel Castro as the man who kept three women prisoner in his home in Cleveland, Ohio for almost 10 years. He took his own life by hanging himself in his prison cell last night around 9:20 PM.
He was serving a life sentence for holding three women captive in his home. The 53 year old man was found hanging in his cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient. He was taken to the Wexner Medical Center at the Ohio State University. He was later pronounced dead at 10:52 PM, September 3.
Castro was previously held at the Lorain Correctional Institution and was later transferred to the Orient Facility at the beginning of August. He was also in protective custody. The prison kept him in a cell by himself and checked on him every 30 minutes. However, he was still able to commit suicide.
Castro was sentenced to life in prison as well as an extra 1,000 years for the 937 counts of rape and kidnapping against the three women he held captive for almost a decade.
