A former American Idol contestant was crowned Miss California 2010 on Saturday night in Fresno, Miss America Caressa Cameron reported via Twitter.
Arianna Afsar, 18, of San Diego will travel to neighboring Nevada in January to compete in the Miss America 2011 pageant.
The ABC television network will broadcast the final competition and crowning on Jan. 15.
A vocalist, her platform is “Adopt a Grand-Friend.”
Arianna arrived in Fresno as Miss San Diego County.
The University of California, Los Angeles student was in the top 36 in the American Idol contest during season 8 in 2009.
She was in semi-finals group 3, and performed Abba’s “The Winner Takes It All.”
Among the others in group 3 were Scott MacIntyre, Lil Rounds and Jorge Nunez.
