Argentine legend Diego Armando Maradona has won his battle against the Italian collection agency in which it is claiming that the ex-soccer player owes up to 50 million Euros.
The owed amount comes from taxes not paid from the era that Maradona played in the Italian league, Serie A, for club team SSC Napoli back in the late 80s and early 90s.
ESPN reported on a Friday morning article that the battle between Diego Armando Maradona and the Italian Treasury has lasted 20 years, and it mentions that Maradona took the victory over the debt disputed.
Maradona’s lawyer was quoted in the article stating that his client won the dispute and “can now return to Italy as a free man.”
However, the Italian collection agency has denied any request from the Argentine ex-soccer player on having his debt annulled, declared extinct, or modified.
The article concluded that the Italian treasury will be looking and evaluating for any grounds to sue for damages.
