Occasionally we get a chance to check out an item that works particularly well when we’re out on the road in our RV. RV lovers are known for gadgets, we like our bling - be it flags, strings of lights, the occasional pink flamingo or gnome. And of course, gadgets for the inside of the rig are just as important, if it’s a new widget, we want it. So it was exciting to be given the new Argee's Chop Keeper cutting board to review. While the product was designed for use in any kitchen, we were just getting ready for a camping trip and instantly thought this would be a great addition to our RV.
The Chop Keeper is just a cutting board but it has some unique features that make it a joy to use. Semi-flexible plastic with about a 3/4” rim helps keep your product and more importantly, product juices on the board. The unique design allows the board to be folded in the center to allow unwanted juices to be poured down the products point and into the sink or trash. RV lovers will love the lightweight Chop Keeper as it is small enough to fit in the confined space of an RV kitchen and is easily tucked away in storage. We used the Chop Keeper all weekend, prepping each of our meals on it. While it does show some markings from our chef knives, it didn’t stain when we cut roasted red beets nor did it melt when we cut our BBQ hot off the grill. It was really perfect in this application.
A month later of constant use and we passed the Chop Keeper over to our cooking club. Typically we use silicon mats for members to prep on, but everyone preferred the Chop Keeper. It is sturdier than the silicon mats and kept product in place. It washes up easily and seems impervious to stains. We found ourselves preferring the Chop Keeper to our normal wooden cutting board. This is one of those products that you might not be impressed with on first glance but will soon think “why didn’t someone think of this sooner”?
Made in the USA, no BPA materials, and dishwasher safe on the top shelf, this is a convenient product for the busy cook. The Argee site has the Chop Keeper priced at $13.95 for a set of three. We have been abusing our trial board and it is still in fine shape. You can expect to get months of use out of the set, making it an affordable choice.
