Arepas & Co. has offered Caribbean and Latin American food in the 2nd Street Market since 2012; all of their dishes are gluten-free, and vegan and vegetarian options are featured on their very affordable menu. Dishes include arepas (white corn patties), empanadas (yellow corn turnovers), and patacones (fried green plantains which can be topped with chicken or with beans and rice). Various sauces are available to add to the already robust flavors (their cilantro sauces are especially amazing). Tres Leches cake is available for dessert. Colombian platters are available (home-cooked style meals, generally featuring an entrée and a couple of sides), and on Saturdays you can get a Columbian style breakfast as well as a sandwich made with Choclo.
Arepas & Co is open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 2nd Street Market, but – owing to popular demand – a second location has opened in Kettering!
Owner Jhembert Perdomo, a native of Colombia, and his wife Lisa, a native of Kettering, have now opened a second location at 1122 E. Dorothy Lane in Kettering, in the building just behind Sherwood Florist. This stand-alone restaurant is open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and seats 20; outdoor seating is available in the nicer weather for an additional 20 people. You can also order food for carry-out (they are closed on Sundays). The Kettering location will have an even more extensive menu, including such delicious delights as yucca fries and buñuelos, fried dough balls that can be made with a variety of fillings.
Both locations of Arepas accept credit cards, and if you need any more information (you don’t; all you need to know is that they have bunuelos), you can call them at (937) 503-5192 or go to the Arepas & Co Facebook page at www.facebook.com/arepasandco
