In a news post published today, ArenaNet Game Designer Tyler Bearce explained the upcoming PvP map for "Guild Wars 2." The map is called Spirit Watch and it will release alongside the Flame and Frost update later this month.
Spirit Watch is a Norn-themed area where players participate in conquest gameplay with capture-the-flag mechanics. The flag comes in the form of an Orb of Ascension, and when held, the orb makes the carrier 40% slower. This player can also not be affected by swiftness and teleporting will cause the orb to drop.
Capturing the orb at a control point owned by teammates nets more points toward victory than capturing it at a point controlled by the opposing team. Bringing the orb to an opposing team's controlled point, though, will instantly make the control point neutral. This could create some interesting offensive maneuvers when carrying the orb.
Spirit Watch and the Flame and Frost update are scheduled to release on Feb. 26, 2013.
