What type of a specialist are you? Are you having trouble identifying your areas of expertise? If so keep reading because it is necessary for you to give yourself credit where credit is due. When considering your top-notch credentials, look at and beyond your profession, don’t forget the things you’re passionate about, the things you love (unless your passion is your career).
You have skills and abilities that set you apart from the rest.
Perhaps you’re focused and this makes you an excellent listener. Most people would die to have a friend who validates them with their passion for listening. You might be someone who loves a physical challenge and therefore you specialize in body conditioning activities. Or, maybe you love words and you spend your time writing, doing crosswords and reading. Because of your vast knowledge and love for the language, you are a communication expert.
Here is my list, I’m hopeful you can relate to it and it is helpful assisting you to create yours:
- I specialize in mothering. My love for my children and circle of family and friends takes priority and their wellbeing is primal for me.
- I’m a compassion specialist. When I connect with those who surround me, I can feel their pain. And, when my heart hurts from this energy, I reach out to help and soothe their sorrow.
- I’m a being of creativity. If you follow my column and blog, you’re aware that my life offers testimony of its healing power. My expertise in this “Life Healing Art” arena offers hope to anyone suffering and willing to connect.
These three skills or you might call them traits, have been with me since I can remember. I’ve always tried to take care of others, bonded without really trying and I’ve found serenity in drawing or even coloring at a very young age.
Sure, I have other skills that at one time I’d list on the top of my resume. But, today, I realize those listed in the past where not the ones that matter most.
It isn’t my management success or purchasing specialty that counts, it is my humanitarian ability that connects me with the greater whole by helping me to make the world a more loving place.
Take the time to figure out your top three skills, and when you do, make sure you list the ones that really count!
