Area pro's Cross Border Golf School in Florida slated for February

Ottawa-area golf professional June Staton’s Cross Border Golf School tees off next month with two three-day sessions in the Sunshine State.

Staton, a PGA/LPGA professional and instructor at Anderson Links and the Ottawa Golf Academy, is welcoming golfers to register for her school, which will happen from Feb. 2-4 and Feb. 18-20 at TwinEagles Golf Club in Naples, Fla.

The daily lesson sessions are slated to run from 9 a.m. until noon. The students will then break for lunch and follow up the meal with nine or 18 holes of golf. All aspects of the game will be included during the daily instruction periods.

Here is the schedule:

Introduction

  • Evening before school starts from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m: Meet your teachers Cocktail Reception at TwinEagles Golf Club.

Day One

  • 9 a.m. to Noon: On the Tee - Full Swing Fundamentals, mid irons, long irons, fairway woods and driver.
  • Noon to 1p.m.: Lunch at TwinEagles Club
  • 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Golf at TwinEagles (Play the course)
  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.: More instruction available

Day Two

  • 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Short Game – Putting, how to read a green; Wedge Game, how to use a wedge, which wedge to use and why.
  • 11 a.m. to Noon: How, what and when to practice.
  • Noon to 1 p.m.: Lunch at TwinEagles
  • 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Golf at TwinEagles (Play the course)
  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.: More instruction available

Day Three

  • 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.: Review of full swing fundamentals and short game.
  • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Individual evaluation of each student’s game. What to work on to get to the next level.
  • Noon to 1 p.m.: Lunch at TwinEagles
  • 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.: On course playing session with the professionals.

The school's cost is $595 and includes green fees, carts and the lunches.

Staton has taught golf for 30 years and joined the Ottawa Golf Academy in 2009. She is also one of the top certified club fitters for custom club maker Henry Griffitts and Ping Karsten.

The former LPGA touring professional uses cutting edge technology and revolutionary teaching practices during her instruction classes.

Melissa Dziabo, who is also a PGA/LPGA professional, is onboard to also give students tips on how to improve their games.

TwinEagles features two 18-hole championship courses – the Talon Course and the recently completed Eagle Course - and a 47,000 sq.-ft. clubhouse that was designed to capture the ambiance of St. Andrews, where the game of golf was born.
