Drop-in child care centers offer options for busy Atlanta parents

Many schools and day care centers in Atlanta will begin closing for the Thanksgiving holiday - even if mom and dad won't be off until the day the turkey hits the table. If it's care a parent needs while their child is out of school this holiday season, here are a few places in the Atlanta metro area that provide part-time care and hourly drop off with no reservations needed for children 18 months and older.

Even if it's only to finish a little last minute shopping, as with any other permanent child care facility a parent uses, they should follow the same protocol and ensure they are 100 percent comfortable with the environment.

Parents should:

  • Spend some time in the facility before leaving a child in a new environment.
  • Watch how the day care providers interact with the children.
  • Check references (if possible in advance), licenses and ensure that the providers are CPA-certified.
  • Look around the facility and ensure it is up to standard. Do the toys look dirty and worn? Are there adequate numbers of providers for the children? Do the children seem happy?
