Area bowlers of age 50 or more can enter the Gulf Coast Senior Games

Amateur athletes of ages 50 and up are eligible to compete in the 24th Annual Gulf Coast Senior Games, which will include bowling events at AMF Gulf Gate Lanes in Sarasota on Sunday, Feb. 24.

The scratch competition will include singles at 10 a.m., doubles at noon and mixed doubles at 2 p.m.

Winners will be determined by three-game pinfall, and a one-game rolloff will break ties. Prospective players may enter all three events if so desired.

Entry forms and payment must be submitted no later than Friday, Feb. 1, and fees are payable in advance by check, cash, money order or credit card, and registration is available by mail or online.

A one-time registration fee of $12 entitles each participant to a T-shirt, and there is an additional $3 for each event entered. For instance, if a person signs up for bowling and plans to enter all three events -- singles, doubles and mixed doubles -- the registration fee would be $21, including $9 event fees.

For bowlers, an additional facility (lineage) fee will be charged, at the rate of $8 for three games, payable at AMF Gulf Gate on the day of competition.

There will be nine age divisions, as follows: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89 and 90-up. In the case of doubles or mixed doubles, the team will be placed in the classification of the youngest bowler.

To clarify, the participant's age (for classification purposes) will be based upon age as of Dec. 31, 2013, and such date applies only to the local games. Any other Senior Games may have differing age-cutoff dates.

Registration can be made by "snail mail" or online. The mailing address is: Gulf Coast Senior Games, c/o Manatee County Parks And Recreation, 5502 33rd Avenue Drive West, Bradenton FL 34209. Checks should be made out to: Manatee County Parks And Recreation.
