Love is magical. Love is euphoric. Love is like... doing a three-foot line of cocaine off a Care Bear's tummy? That last analogy might not be quite so far fetched according to researchers at Syracuse University.
In a recent review of studies, researchers found that the effects of love on the body aren’t unlike those of a cocaine high. They found that when subjects were provided with visual cues representing their partners (such as a photograph), their brains released a mixture of chemicals that briefly mirrored cocaine’s euphoric effects.
But unlike a drug addiction, getting high off your partner won’t lead to unsavory side effects (a.k.a. Fergie’s face).
