A Daily Word from the Word for Thursday, May 22, 2014
“Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” – Ephesians 5:6
I was at a big box store the other day, standing in the “20 items or less” check-out line, and much to my annoyance, there was an individual at the register with a full shopping cart of items. Here I stood, beyond irritated, looking down at my one item and looking up at the obvious sign stating “20 items or less.” This is not the first time I have encountered this act of rebellion—and disobedience is just that: rebellion.
Upon checking out, I sought a manager to lodge my complaint, and was dumbstruck when he told me that the cashiers are not allowed to say anything, that they expect people to come through with more items. I was convinced at that moment that I entered into the twilight zone or some other alternate universe. I repeated back what I thought I heard this person in authority say to make sure I didn’t mishear. He confirmed that I heard correctly.
I asked him the point of having express lanes, if the expectation was that their requirements for use would not be followed, nor expected to be followed, or enforced. I proceeded to say that is the “emperor’s new clothes” syndrome, where everyone but the emperor knew the emperor was not wearing any clothes, but no one would bring forth the truth. Out of fear, they allowed this naked king to remain in his ignorance, wallowing in his lack. Sadly, I got a blank stare back. He shut down on me. I saw the gears in his brain stop working.
Does this sound familiar, family? How many of God’s own children allow fear to keep them from clothing a bare soul with the truth? I hear some of you saying “Oh Brother Matt, aren’t you overreacting just a bit?” And my response back is an unequivocal “no.”
Disobedience is disobedience is disobedience. Just as you can’t be a little pregnant, you cannot be a little disobedient. There are no degrees of disobedience, as any trace is like a cancer that germinates and ravishes a body. Would you say “Oh, its just a little cancer.” God forbid! Even one item over the established quota in the express line is one item too many, as it is disobedience.
Think I am still over-reacting? Just look at the monumental and unfathomable price that disobedience cost God? And look what it is costing humanity—both in our individual lives, and as a race. It takes but a crack in the door of decency for hell itself to gain a foothold in the lives of every person, and bring forth such an infestation of infirmity that one will never fully recover. Just a seemingly-innocent crossing of the line, my brother; only an offhand comment, my sister, and a crack is created, opening the door of destruction and despair.
The Greek word for “disobedience” as used here is apeitheia (pr. ap-i-thi-ah), meaning “obstinate and rebellion, unbelief, contumacious” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Webster defines “contumacious” as “stubbornly disobedient”; and further explains “disobedient” as “not doing what someone or something with authority tells you to do: refusing or failing to obey rules, laws, etc.” God, who created the laws of this universe and of humanity (ie: The Ten Commandments), is our Ultimate Authority. And when we stubbornly defy His mandates, which are in place to protect us and to keep order, then all hell literally breaks loose.
Pastor Francis Frangipane recently wrote: “There is something happening in the earth. Massive earthquakes. Huge death tolls. Unprecedented storms…I cannot help but call to mind the Lord's word, ‘Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the Heaven’ (Hebrews 12:26). There is certainly a great shaking occurring in the nations.
Remember, Jesus warned that ‘great earthquakes’ would be part of a variety of natural calamities, which He called ‘birth pangs,’ that would introduce the end times (Luke 21:11; Matthew 24:8; Mark 13:8). In other words, He told us to expect natural disasters to increase both in magnitude and frequency, as though the earth itself was recoiling against the weight of sin. As Isaiah said, ‘The earth is shaken violently...it totters like a shack, for its transgression is heavy upon it’ (Isaiah 24:19-20)” (© 2014. The Unshakable Kingdom).
Do you want to help restore this country to its God-given morals and values, my brother? Do you want you and your children to feel safe again in your community and your schools, my sister? Then become intolerant of intolerance in a Godly way. Be more faithful to God than afraid of imbeciles and miscreants. And stand for obedience unto the Lord first and foremost, because anything else creates a crack.
Father, we repent for giving into, allowing, and turning a blind eye to disobedience. Forgive us for giving place to the sons and daughters of disobedience within this country, and where we have allowed them to occupy all levels of government, teach our children in schools, and make decisions for us. We repent for giving in to fear rather than giving ourselves over to faith. Raise up a fresh standard in our hearts and in our country, Most Righteous God! You assure us that You have not given us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of boldness (2 Timothy 1:7). Release Your Spirit of boldness onto and into each one of us right now! In Jesus Mighty Name, we thank You that we are Your sons and daughters of righteousness (made righteous only through His Blood), truth, and obedience. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to forsake fear, which is the faith of the devil, for the truth and righteousness of the Father. Determine every day to walk in the truth and love of the Father, rather than acquiescing and compromising to the ways of the world. Forsake pleasing and the pursuit of popularity with people, for the peace and prosperity of God. And continue to fight the good fight of walking in complete obedience to the Father; for God, your Divine Order, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins—past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
