Are We Eating the Right Foods for a Healthy Diet?

Although food is often consumed for the purpose of ingesting important nutrients for proper functioning of the body, not enough nutrients enter the body. In fact, Americans tend to consume more calories than content.

A good diet to consider is foods that contain plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grains. Obesity and chronic diseases often result from a diet high in sugar, trans fats, and sodium.

Sometimes it is difficult to embrace a healthy eating lifestyle; therefore, a licensed dietician may be a good choice for finding the right kind of guidance one needs to overcome the complexities of proper foods and their portions. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly American Dietetic Association) is a good resource for finding licensed dieticians in certain locations.

Some dieticians like to help people transfer slowly into better eating habits. One common change dieticians like to see is when people start their day with a good breakfast. Eating the right blends of food is much more important than trying to eat some foods that are nutritious along with other foods that are harmful.
