Are we a gateway, or an obstacle, for 'children' seeking Jesus?

See also

Children bring out the best, and worst, in us.

When feeling good, a room full of children is a room full of life an energy. When feeling tired, anxious, or distracted, the very same room full of children can seem like a 'Chinese-water-torture.' Yet, the children remain the same. What differentiates our perception is what's going on inside of us.

Jesus wants His Father's children to come to Him. Will we, in our waffling imperfections, be a gateway or an obstacle?

"Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone in good spirits? He should sing a song of praise." James 5:13-20

How can we expect to be a gateway for the 'children' of God if we aren't living like a child of God ourselves? In other words, how are we to welcome sons and daughters of God if we aren't in intimacy with the Son of God Himself?

How can I lead others to the Mercy of God if I don't repent, and confess my sins to the Lord--in sacramental confession? How can I bring Jesus to the lost and confused children of our times if I don't believe, receive, and share the Eucharistic Savior? How can I evangelize, let alone act charitable, toward a room full of 'children' (and I mean children from ages 1 to 99), if I cannot remain prayerful, mindful of my own imperfections, moods, temperament, and prejudices?

"O LORD, set a watch before my mouth, a guard at the door of my lips. For toward you, O God, my LORD, my eyes are turned; in you I take refuge; strip me not of life." Psalm 141:1-3, 8

Being an obstacle to 'children' in their search for our Lord starts with our thoughts and desires but, quite often, first, becomes manifest in the sewage which comes from our mouth. Words are meant to convey faith, hope, charity, and Truth. Yet, words, in pride, malice, envy, lust, and selfishness, can be obstacles, weapons, and falsely prophetic.

Jesus desires that all 'children' come to the Father; we must, therefore, constantly convert to His Loving point of view.

"Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the Kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” Mark 10:13-16

Finally, this brings us to two unavoidable topics.

First, anyone who finances, supports, votes for, perpetrates, encourages, and endorses, the killing of the innocent unborn baby (i.e., abortion), sends that child to heaven ahead of him, or her, self. This means that when Judgment Day comes, the child sitting in Jesus' Loving arms will join our Lord in seeking for an explanation.

This doesn't mean, however, that young women who have had an abortion(s) cannot go to heaven. No sin repented of is greater than God's Mercy. And we must not forget that many young women are pressured by 'friends and family.' What this means is that the man or woman who fully supports the 'culture of death' brings spiritual death upon him, or her, self.

Not the mention all the innocent children in their path.

Secondly, heaven, the Beatific Vision, or whatever you prefer to call it, is Life Eternal with God, and those in communion with Him. There is, moreover, a child-like requirement to this communion which starts with faith, hope, and charity. Simple faith, simple hope, and simple charity. Childlike: simple and true; unadulterated Gospel, simple and true.

Whenever we try to make it complicated, adulterated, or 'adult,' we become obstacles to others, and ourselves.
