Are there opportunities for you based on the Charlotte region's newest job announcements?

This week in the Charlotte area, Connextions has announced layoffs due to Sprint deciding to move its call center operations to India. Connextions expects to lose between 200 and 250 jobs by June as a result of losing the Sprint contract. Connextions contracts its high-end customer service operations to major companies.

Carilion labs also has announced the elimination of 90 jobs as it relocates its lab work to Greensboro. The company is streamlining operations after its merger with Spectrum. It is jointly headquarter in Greensboro and Roanoke, VA.

On the positive side for those seeking employment, Salisbury-based PGT Industries has announced plans to hire up to 100 workers after their career fair Saturday. PGT is hiring through Staffmasters, so these jobs look to be temporary, or potentially temp to hire type positions.

For those who are interested in inside sales, Red Ventures is holding a career fair in uptown Charlotte today until 4:30 PM at Time Warner Cable Arena. If you're unable to attend, visit their web site at www.redventures.com.

While this economic news may be unsettling to some, remember that trends have changed greatly over the years. The average length of a job in America is just around 3 years. Change is regular part of the work environment any more. You need to be prepared for change. To quote my friend and author Dan Miller - "Any time there is change, there are the seeds of opportunity." Mark certain you are nurturing those seeds so you can experience a great harvest.
