Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Rosanne Cash, Iran's Sussan Deyhim, and other artists have now been linked to the upcoming benefit album, Chimes of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.
According to a post on Deyhim's website, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Lenny Kravitz, Alison Krauss, Diana Krall, the Roots and others will be participating in the 50 song tribute. Deyhim will be covering "All I Really Want to Do."
In addition, earlier today Cash tweeted, "In studio w/ Larry Campbell to record my part on benefit song for Amnesty International. Larry, me, Mr. L." "Mr. L" is her husband, John Leventhal. You can view the photograph at Lockerz.
Cash, who shares the same May 24 birthday as Dylan, did not mention what song she was recording, or what her "part" entailed. However, the presence of Dylan's former guitarist Larry Campbell may indicate that the session is for the Chimes of Freedom project. According to Dylan Cover, Cash has previously covered "Girl From The North Country," "License To Kill", and, with Lucinda Williams and Bruce Cockburn, "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." She also participated in the finale of the Martin Guitar 175th Anniversary Concert at the State Theatre in Easton, PA, performing "My Back Pages" with Roger McGuinn, Marty Stuart, Mr. L, and others, and sang "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" with Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin at the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration.
Artists previously linked to the project:
- Lucinda Williams - "Tryin' To Get To Heaven"
- Mark Knopfler - (Unknown)
- Jack's Mannequin - "Mr. Tambourine Man"
- Rise Against - "The Ballad Of Hollis Brown"
- Bad Religion - (Unknown, possibly "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue".)
- Glee's Darren Criss - (Unknown)
The album is expected to be released November 22 on Shangri-La Records.
