Are pomegranates the new apple?

It's pretty unlikely that pomegrantes will supplant the mighty apple.

However, this enchanting fruit is hitting the supermarket shelves with full force. What used to be a foreign fruit has now become the new phenomenon in the fruit world. There are all sorts of articles that gave this fruit so much praise and go on forever about how it's filled with antioxidants.

No doubt, this fruit is good for you but its tast is what will get you hooked. But, before you can enjoy the taste you need to know how to prepare it, which is not an easy task.

Here are step-by-step instructions on how to open a pomegranate.

First and foremost, always wash your fruit. Even if what you want is on the inside, make sure you still wash it. Then, cut off the top (I cut about 1/2 inch off the top).

Once you cut off the top, make 5 cuts from top to bottom. Make sure not to cut all the way through, you just want these cuts to cut the skin, not the inside! Once you cut it, get a bowl of cold water out. Take the pomegranate and place in cold water. Carefully break open the pomegranate using the cuts you made and push the seeds out. You may have to work a little to get some of them out, but I found it really easy because they just sort of pop out! The seeds will sink to the bottom and anything else will float to the top.

You can now eat the seeds. They are a bit tangy but always add texture to whatever you add them to. I like to use  pomegranate seeds in all sorts of things such as yogurt, cereal and oatmeal. To view more ways of how I incorporate pomegranate seeds to my food; make sure to keep an eye on my food blog- Healthy Living.
