A female suicide bomber dealt death and destruction Sunday as she walked into a railway station and detonated explosives she had on her person, according to CNN So far at least 16 people were killed and 34 others were wounded by the terrorist attack. The act of terrorism only further heightens fears concerning the safety of tens of thousands of visitors and international dignitaries who will be visiting the Sochi Olympic Games in February.

How safe should anyone feel during this time of continuing unrest in Russian since according to USA Today, a number of suicide bombings along with other terrorist actions have occurred in Russia for quite some time. Can and should anyone take the personal assurances of President Vladimir Putin or the game’s organizers who state that they will make, “the Sochi Games the “safest Olympics in history.

Most recently in October another female suicide bomber detonated her explosive package in Volgograd on a city bus. The result of the blast ended up killing six innocent people, said USA Today.

The central disturbing question that has to be plaguing many participants in the games and their families is just how safe will they be if Muslim terrorists have targeted these games, as Palestinian terrorists did in murdering 11 Israeli athletes in a terrorist attack at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov pledged attacks on the Sochi Olympic Games, according to USA. He earlier called for new attacks against civilian targets in Russia, including the Sochi Games. Today’s attack in this Russian city may launch a deadly waiting game to see if Umarov makes good on his deadly terrorist promises.
