One of the reforms that has been debated in the nation’s capital is immigration reform. Many Americans stated that illegal immigrants are coming to America and taking the jobs from American citizens. The main focus is the Mexicans coming from Mexico to America.
Mexico is part of the North America continent as United States and Canada. When the Mexican immigrants occupy jobs in America, are the jobs really being taken away from the American citizens?
United States and Canada are considered to be industrialized nations, but Mexico is a third world country inflicted by poverty. Many Mexicans leave Mexico and migrate to America for a better life. The people believe that the U.S. offer better opportunities for a successful livelihood.
Many of the illegal immigrants work jobs for slaughter houses, landscaping services, produce farmers, livestock farmers, grain farmers, maid services, janitorial services, and restaurant services. A lot of the jobs the Mexicans occupy are manual labor jobs. Several farmers down South try to hire workers from other nationalities, but did not have success and decided to hire illegal immigrants to work the farms.
The type of jobs that the illegal immigrants take in America are jobs that American citizens will not work anymore. If the tasks are not performed on these type of jobs then vegetables and fruit will not get harvested and hotel rooms and office buildings will not get cleaned (The Atlantic Wire, 2013 and Camarato, & Zeigler, 2009).
America has entered the computer age, but still have manufacture jobs and manual labor jobs. A lot of these type of jobs offer low wages because no skills are required. Mexicans will take these type of jobs, because low wages in America is a lot higher than the wages in Mexico. Minimum wage in America is $7.25 an hour and the average wage in Mexico in 2010 was about $650 a month (EPI, 2013 and Security Mexico, 2005).
The law that need to be passed is for these workers to pay federal income taxes, state income and social security benefits. The workers need to pay their share to be allowed to live and work in America as American citizens.
In addition, allow each state the authority to convert these people to America citizens. If a person is born in Alaska, then that person is still an American citizen. A person born in any state becomes a natural born citizen. Regardless what state the illegal immigrant resides and works in, that person should be allowed to become American citizen through that state.
By allowing state the right to process illegal immigrants will permit the employers in the state to collect the federal taxes, social security, and state taxes rapidly. The states also can grant the illegal immigrants citizenship faster because each state will process applicants. Now the Federal Government has to process all applicants.
America is constantly advancing using technology in the workforce. These technical jobs require skills workers. As the American citizens have become more educated and proficient, the workers are moving from manual labor. These manual jobs have been abandoned. The manual labor jobs are not been taken by illegal aliens but are just being occupied by immigrants (Camarato, & Zeigler, 2009).
