I’m noticing many of our clients are maintaining busier schedules (bordering on hectic) since August. Many people have been rearranging meetings to try to get more done and increase their results – What’s up?
In our business, I’m seeing a positive increase in the number of people interested in moving forward with us, committing to appointments on the calendar, and getting started. While some of that is not surprising given the typical "back to school" mentality that occurs in September, it does seem to be more like the good ole' days before 2008 than the last few years. I think that’s encouraging for a positive change in the overall business climate.
The change that I’m feeling is palpable. More and more people are openly talking to us about what they want to “achieve again,” not just about what they were trying “to avoid”.
This small change in focus can have a huge effect in their business and all of our businesses. Think back to the go-go periods of the last decade. Remember when people were constantly complaining that they had to hire "warm bodies" just to get the work out because the unemployment rate was in the low single digits? The scarcity mentality fed upon itself and created even more demand for people. People looked to expand operations and locations so they wouldn't get left behind the growth curve. The optimism led to more proactive investments and the circulation of money flourished.
I don't believe that we should all ‘gather round’ and spend a week singing, "Happy days are here again", but I do believe that the momentum is building. As I have said before, it just may be time to embrace the notion of "falling forward".
