Are deer headed to extinction in Kansas?

Kansas-Hunters have killed more than 100,000 deer annually with the numbers slowly decreasing every year. In the year 2011 the number dropped to 89,000 with 116,000 registered permitted hunters. The deer population for the 2010-11 was estimated at 600,000 this number is a ruff estimation and this is before the hunting season. The deer population after legal hunting would be estimated at 511,000, but those numbers would be wrong because the numbers for poaching and private deer management have to be factored in to that number. According to the Kansas Department of wildlife, parks and tourism the same amount of animals are killed by poachers every year that are killed by legal hunters, so poachers kill 89,000, and private deer management or damage control can kill up to 10% of the remaining 422,000 - 42,200= 379,800.

The deer population after all the hunting is over will be 379,800 a little over half now. But now deer are battling a disease known as Epizootic hemorrhagic disease that will kill 25-30% of the remaining herds that means 113,940 will die from this disease in 2012 leaving 265,860 deer left.

The state of Kansas must factor in the deer's killed in traffic, that die of old age, birthing mortalities rates, and predator kills, this number varies but putting this number at 10% is a low estimate, so 26,586 leaving the deer population at 239,274 in the state of Kansas.

Kansas has an estimated 2,871,238 human population and is still growing. Kansas uses and build on an estimated 32.4% of land every year taking the much need habitat away from Kansas's wildlife.

The numbers don't lie in a matter of 10 years the deer in Kansas may become an extinct species.
