Are Americans really free? 12 facts that should make you wonder

July 3, 2010

We don't need the 4th of July to celebrate our freedom. As an American, every day above ground should be cause for celebration: we live in the "Land of the Free," don't we?

"Man is not free, unless government is limited." ~ Ronald Reagan

America has changed dramatically from the country our parents knew. One could argue we're not really free at all.

The following 12 random facts show just how much America's concept of "freedom" has changed. We start in Reno, Nevada, where car owners no longer can be trusted to put air in their own tires. Seriously.

#12) Nevada legislators are drafting a bill that requires vehicle service centers, smog inspection stations and quick lube shops to check the inflation pressure of their customers’ vehicles, because

drivers can't be trusted to inflate their own tires. (Think that's ludicrous? California already has such a law. Your state lawmakers may be next in line to legislate common sense.)

#11) Speaking of Cali, Governor Schwarzenegger decided to slash most state workers' pay to minimum wage ($7.25/hr) for the month of July. Surprise!

#10) Oklahoma police tasered a disabled grandma in her bed and stepped on her oxygen hose until she couldn't breathe because they considered her "a threat."

#9) A 6-year-old girl from Ohio is on the "no fly" list maintained by U.S. Homeland Security.

#8) School officials in a Massachusetts town refused to allow students to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

#7) When two Christians peacefully passed out copies of the Gospel of John on a public sidewalk outside a public Arab festival in Dearborn, Michigan, 8 policemen surrounded them in less than 3 minutes and placed them under arrest.

#6) Scientists at Columbia University warn that the dose of radiation from full body security scanners going into all U.S. airports could be 20 times higher than estimated.

#5) Three California high school students were forced to remove their American flag T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo. One of the students was a Mexican-American who wanted to show support for his native country, America.

#4) A 6-year-old girl was handcuffed and sent to a mental facility after throwing temper tantrums at  school.

#3) In Florida, students have been arrested by police for bringing a plastic butter knife to school, throwing an eraser and drawing a picture of a gun.

#2) Federal border agents report that Mexican drug cartels have not only set up shop on American soil, they are maintaining lookout bases in the hillsides of southern Arizona. (They admit this, yet they will not enforce federal immigration law and intend to sue Arizona for trying to do what the Feds won't.)

#1) Since 1973, more than 50 million babies have been murdered in abortion facilities across the United States. America's women may be "free to choose abortion," but the unborn victims and their fathers are not "free to choose life."

A law to check tires? Wow. Now, as part of good customer service, a shop might decide to voluntarily do that..I'd probably give them an extra point for that, but..a law is ridiculous.

I was with you until #1, where you make it clear you'd prefer stomping on women's reproductive rights.

    Agreed

Even as a male, I agree. It's the woman's body; it's her choice.

Great article, I reposted it to my Facebook site....I agree with all your 12 reasons, including #1, which Tracy seems to have a problem with! Thanks for posting this one!

Tracy, all women (and the men we have sex with), have a plethora of "reproductive rights" and "choice" BEFORE we conceive a child, and I encourage men and women to exercise their rights to avoid procreation, most definitely!

But to me, once an egg is fertilized in the womb, it is a potential life, so now we have a battle of your so-called "women's rights" vs. my "child's right to be born." I believe every child has that right endowed by its Creator AND the Constitution.

As the grateful mother of two adopted children, I am proud to live in Nevada, where we are a "child's rights" state in cases where children's birth parents are unfit. The courts decide what is in the best interest of THE CHILD... not the parents, grandparents, relatives or siblings of the child. I feel the same should apply to a fertilized embryo growing in a womb.

Women (and men) need to exercise their reproductive rights BEFORE conception, not commit murder willy nilly afterward.

I personally think it is ridiculous to give a sperm and an egg the same rights as a born human being. In pro life states, we don't even give our closest animal cousins the same rights as a sperm and an egg and I guarantee they have more consciousness and feelings than something that has to be looked under a microscope to even know it exists.

Great list (including #1!) I heard about the American flag incident. It's OUR flag, and if they don't like it, they shouldn't be here. I thought people from the other side of the border were coming here because they wanted American freedom...which is disappearing anyway, as you said.

When we get rid of the Marxists, Commies, Progressives, and all those in our society who are doing everything in their power to bring our country to ruin, then, we'll have a freer society. A lot of those on the left are nothing more than useful idiots. They keep believing in the lies of the left. Especially #1. If you actually condone having non-committed sex and the woman gets pregnant, and the woman decides that the baby is a burden, then the woman has a 'right' to abort the baby? Yes, liberalism is a mental disorder! We need a major, major, house cleaning in our government and our society. Ever heard of Joe McCarthy? Well, guess what? He was right then and he's still right now. We've been infiltrated for years by those on the left that seek to destroy our country. WAKE UP ALL YOU USEFUL IDIOTS OUT THERE. THE LEFT'S PLAYING YOU FOR A SUCKER!!

Don't forgot the Patriot act. It allows law enforcement officers to search a home or business without the owner’s or the occupant’s permission or knowledge. It also allows the FBI to search telephone, e-mail, and financial records without a court order. Sleep tight.

Its not the womans body its the babies body hence the woman cant decide for the baby plus fathers should have a right as well.

  • Liver 1 year ago

Yeah that just invalidated the whole list.

  • Yea. 10 months ago

It is fine what a woman does with her body. What she does with the body of an innocent child is another story.

  • Anonymous 5 months ago

Abortion is wrong. Set your baby up for adoption or something.

  • april 3 weeks ago

i like your answers but...the last one will always be here no matter what...yes i supose you are right the baby doesnt get to choose life but the father does get to choose along side of the mother. 9 times out of 10 its the father that wants the girl to get one...
