Archeology, genealogy and more at Laman Library (Video)

William F. Laman Library in North Little Rock explores the past this month with Masks of the Ancestors Brazilian Rock Art Ekwimyatipa and Portraits in Gray: A Civil War Photography Exhibit.

History buffs will be excited about the exhibit Portraits in Gray: A Civil War Photography Exhibition beginning on March 29, 2013. From private collector David Wynn Vaughnan, who may possibly have the nation’s largest collection of Civil War Confederate images, these 70 photographs come to the library courtesy of the Southern Museum in association with the Smithsonian Institute. The exhibition includes such rarities as eight portraits of cadets at the Georgia Military Institute. There will be a total of nine thematic sections featuring Citizens Soldiers, Brothers in Arms, Bowie Knives and Muskets, and more.

Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 5:30 p.m., Laman commemorates Arkansas Archeology Month by featuring an hour-long lecture, Masks of the Ancestors Brazilian Rock Art Ekwimyatipa, by well-known art historian Dr. Reinaldo Morales from the University of Central Arkansas.

At the Argenta Branch on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Suzanne Jackson will be teaching genealogy basics research. She will also show participants how to use the library’s free online database to search for genealogical information.
