If you’re in New York City on Monday – reportedly in midtown Manhattan, around Park Avenue and 41st – keep your eyes peeled for the first day of production for an upcoming indie flick that’s set to star Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Tim Roth and Brit Marling. Canadian musician Drake, who was previously attached to the project, appears to have been replaced by Nate Parker (see comment on indiewire.com article).
‘Arbitrage’ is billed as a drama-thriller that focuses on New York City’s sketchy hedge fund industry and will be directed by Nicholas Jarecki from his own screenplay. Jarecki appears to be active on twitter, and his account at the site (follow the preceding link) may be useful if you’re interested in keeping tabs on the production.
Gere will play a hedge fund magnate who, in his desperation to complete a fraudulent sale to a major bank, commits an error that forces him to entrust an unlikely ally. Sarandon is cast as his wife, and it is assumed that Marling will play his art dealer mistress. (Eva Green was originally tied to that role, but her name dropped off the radar shortly after Marling’s surfaced.) Variety reports Roth will play Detective Michael Gower who’s “investigating a murder."
According to this New York Film Office document (pdf), the film will shoot in the city through June 1, 2011. We’ll keep you apprised if other ‘Arbitrage’ New York City filming location details, photos and/or videos become available, but if you have information to share about the production please feel free to share it in the Comments section below.
