Arapahoe Basin preps Montezuma Bowl

Arapahoe Basin (A-Basin) plans to open Montezuma Bowl on the backside of the ski area—soon, hopefully.

"I think we are a decent storm away from opening Montezuma Bowl," said Alan Henceroth, COO and vice president in his blog.  "Depending on how the weather plays out, the likely stuff to open first is Upper Larkspur, Independence, Columbine, Shining Light, Grays and Torreys. The next trails in line to open would be Black Bear, Long Chute, and maybe MGD."

Montezuma Bowl first opened in January 2008.  The expansion increased A-Basin's total acres by 80 percent.  The 400-acre bowl includes long cruisers, wide-open bowls, steeps, trees and glades on southeast to southwest facing aspects.  Backcountry and sidecountry terrain are available via access gates as well.

Both OpenSnow and the National Weather Service expect snow at A-Basin from Sunday through Monday with three to seven inches of new accumulation possible.  Whether this will be enough to open "Zuma" remains to be seen.
