Arapahoe Basin is open for business and is forecasted to receive 12-22 inches from Mother Nature. Last year, A-basin opened in early October and this Fall has been plague with warmer temperatures. However, with a winter storm warning in effect until 6 am Tuesday morning, the ski season is starting off with a bang! According to the National Weather Service snowfall amounts will range from 12 to 22 inches by late tonight and there will be strong west to northwest winds of 20 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph will also occur.
New this year at A-basin is the debut of the Black Mountain Express, a high speed detachable quad. This replaces their old fixed grip triple chair. Last year, A-basin sold their triple chairs and according to Burt Skall, ski school director, the chairs sold out within seven minutes of going on sale.
A-Basin has one intermediate trail open with small terrain park features sectioned off on one part of it. Twenty acres are open and there is a midway snow depth of 18 inches.
Loveland ski Area opened yesterday with one trail and one thousand vertical feet of skiing and riding terrain.
Grab the boards and get out there! Be careful though with the driving conditions during this winter storm warning.
