The annual Ar-BRRR-retum event at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska will be taking place all day on Friday, Dec. 31. If you are looking for a place to try out your new snowshoes, this is the place to do it. There is free admission for everyone arriving with snowshoes and there are plenty of trails waiting to be explored. (Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, the cross-country ski trails will be closed.)
Making Spirits Bright is going on through Jan. 2 so you'll be able to enjoy the amazing array of gingerbread houses and all the holiday trees decorated with natural crafted ornaments. The gift shop and cafe will be open and you can shop for that holiday gift you didn't get this year and enjoy a cup of cocoa afterwards. And if that isn't enough to boost your spirits, you can always visit the Arboretum's conservatories and there you will most certainly find your tropical happy place. All the snow on your boots will melt away as you view the blooming cacti, orange trees, banana trees, and bird of paradise plants.
There are free family activities on Saturdays and Sundays as well. Ginger and Spice is the theme for December and Cozy up to a Cactus is January's theme. There are free drop-in activities for children every weekend from 12 Noon - 4 P.M. In January children will be invited to pot up their own succulent plant to take home. Click here for more details and a listing of all the great family activities happening at the Learning Center this coming year.
Regular admission to the Arboretum is $9.00 for adults; free for members, University of MN students, and youth 15 and under. From Nov.-March, admission is free all day every Thursday.
