It was a chilly day in Orlando, but things still heated up at SeaWorld's water park, Aquatica, during the park's fifth anniversary celebration on March 1.
The park had a good crowd for a day with temperatures hovering in the 60s, with hearty northern tourists enjoying the balmy heated water. Just before 2 p.m., everyone gathered round for the festivities, which included a speech by Aquatica vice-president Bryan Nadeau, a raffle with a never-ending stream of prizes, from chairs and gift bags to ticket packages, appearances by four animal ambassadors, and of course a huge birthday cake.
Click the slideshow at the top of the article for scenes from the celebration. A DJ spinning tunes, dancing, and hula hoops got the crowd warmed up just before the big event. Then Bryan addressed the huge group of guests and drew the raffle winners while the adorable water slide cake was cut and served. Then macaw, baby gator, spoonbill, and kookaburra posed for photos with guests.
SeaWorld Orlando's water park, Aquatica, is a trend-setter for the rest of the SeaWorld parks nationwide. One debuted in Texas in 2012, and the San Diego park is getting its own water park this year.
Aquatica is an energetic blend of water slides, wave pools, lazy rivers, and kids' play areas. It's open all year 'round as long as the temperatures cooperate.
While the water activities are obviously the big draw, Aquatica also appeals to animal lovers with its Commerson's dolphins, macaws, and other animal ambassadors. Continue on to the next article to see some of the animals close up.
