Spring has sprung for Midwestern horse lovers, with equestrian events cropping up all over. Barrel races, equine soccer, horse shows, roping events, tack sales, training clinics, and other horse happenings abound for the first weekend of April.
Check out these Midwestern equestrian happenings for Thursday, April 3, through Sunday, April 6.
Dover Stables offers a Ground Training Clinic with Roger Skogen on April 3 in Waterford, Wisconsin.
Barrel Racing comes to Kuka Equestrian Center, in Maple Plain, Minnesota, on April 4 and 5, sanctioned by the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA).
Jonathan Mohler teachers an Advanced Horsemanship Clinic in Frederic, Wisconsin, on April 5, followed by a Clinic with Cattle on April 6, at Boisvert Farms.
Chism Trail Ranch continues its Barrel Racing Series with National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) competitions on April 5 and 6 in Merrill, Wisconsin.
In Paris, Wisconsin, the Illinois Dressage and Combined Training Association (IDCTA) presents a Dressage Clinic with Tom Noone at Paris Farms on April 5 and 6.
On April 5, National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) competition comes to High Island Arena, in Henderson, Minnesota.
The Arabian Horse Distance Riding Association (AHDRA) and Upper Midwest Endurance and Competitive Rides Association (UMECRA) have a Distance Riding Clinic set for April 5 at Run Along Farm, in Geneseo, Illinois.
Visitors are invited to an Open House at Chain O’ Lakes State Park Riding Stable, in Spring Grove, Illinois, on April 5. This event was rescheduled from March 22.
In Gleason, Wisconsin, Wisconsin Valley Veterinary Service holds a Coggins and Vaccine Haul-in Day at Rock Run Saddle, Tack and Trailer on April 5.
Also on April 5, Dover Stables has a Drill Team Clinic in Waterford, Wisconsin, with Bethany Tuskey.
Sackett Ranch features a Dummy Roping Clinic in Burnett, Wisconsin, on April 5.
Hamilton Heights welcomes Keystone Stables for Equine Soccer on April 5 in Wausau, Wisconsin.
In Hokah, Minnesota, Krazy K Stables has a 4-H Tack Swap / Education Day on April 5.
Meri-J Ranch has a Tack & Horse Auction on April 5 at Midwest Horse and Tack Sale, in Beloit, Wisconsin.
In Monticello, Illinois, an R&R Spring Horse Fun Show occurs at Trailblazers on April 5.
The Wisconsin Paint Horse Youth Club offers its 3rd Annual Early Spring Youth Horse Show Clinic on April 5 at West 20 Ranch and Saddle Club, in East Troy, Wisconsin. Clinicians are Trisha Munoz and Jennifer Zahorik.
On April 6, Jeff Hauser leads a Beginner Horsemanship and Introduction to Speed/Barrels Clinic during Triple R Saddle Club’s Tri-State Horse Health Day at Big Sky Arena, in Caledonia, Minnesota.

Note: Several Midwestern equestrian venues have canceled or postponed upcoming events in the wake of recent reports of EHV-1 cases in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Horse lovers are urged to confirm events before embarking. Also, current Coggins tests are required at most events, along with recent veterinary certificates.
Advance signups and fees may be required for any or all of these early April equestrian events.
Equestrian participants and spectators, as usual, are advised to call horse show and event venues to double-check times and other details. Last-minute changes and cancellations often occur.
