April Fun at Your Metroparks

Spring is a wonderful time to introduce your kids to the outdoors, and there's no better place then the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. Only hidden pockets of snow may remain. Birds are building their nests and the earth is fresh and new again.

At Lake Erie Metropark, there are lots of programs scheduled to experience it all.

“Easter Week Short-takes,” Monday, April 1 through Friday, April 5 at 10 a.m. & 2 p.m., Marshlands Museum and Nature Center. So…the kids are out of school and they have played so many video games, their thumbs are ready to fall off. Get them outside to enjoy the season for real instead. Bring ‘em to the Marshlands Museum for a full week of fun displays and programs. Each day is something different! Fee: $3 per person. Preregistration required.

“Crack O’ Dawn Coffee Club,” Saturday, April 6 at 8 a.m., Marshlands Museum and Nature Center. Coffee and donuts. Donuts and coffee. However you prefer to say it, we’ll have ‘em. Followed by a leisurely nature stroll, your day can’t start any better. Donations appreciated. Preregistration required.

“Museum Roadshow,” Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m., Marshlands Museum and Nature Center. Bring in your unusual items (like antiques or “whats-its”) and Museum staff will do their best to answer your questions. Items will be “appraised” for their historical and interest value. Sorry, no monetary values will be given. After all, history is priceless. Fee: $3 per appraisal.

“Muskrat Club – Art of Recycling,” Saturday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m., Marshlands Museum and Nature Center. Kids ages 5-12 are invited to explore nature and history as part of the Muskrat Club. This month, learn some cool tips on the three R’s – reduce, reuse and recycle. Children (ages 6-9) are shown some easy tricks and strategies for recycling and how to make it fun! Don’t worry kids – the planet will thank you later! Fee: $3 per child. Preregistration required.

“Webelos Forester Pin,” Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Marshlands Museum and Nature Center. Webelos will do activities to earn this pin as they join an interpreter for a few minutes of “tree-time.” Please preregister for either the morning or afternoon session. Fee: $3 per scout.
