Since April Fools’ Day is April 1 and right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about how to prank the family. As posted by USA Today on March 29, big retailers are getting into the act. Frito-Lay has come out with a Cheetos perfume. Build Direct is advertising chocolate flooring on its website and declares, “You can literally taste the quality!” Fruit of the Loom turned to YouTube to promote its first ever, finger-sized underwear iron. On March 28, the Huffington Post included McDonald's left-handed whopper and Taco Bell's purchase of the Liberty Bell as two of its ten all-time best April Fools’ Day pranks.
To get your own family into the spirit of April Fools’ Day, you don’t have to go all out. A little pre-planning and some simple household products are all you need to pull off a few harmless gags. Below are some family-friendly April Fools’ Day pranks to pull on your children, spouse and any other unsuspecting victims.
Unscrew the light bulbs
Before everyone gets home from school and work, go through the house and unscrew the light bulbs, and then kick back and enjoy your family’s looks of confusion when none of the lights work.
Sprinkle some salt in your hair, and then start complaining that your head is itching like crazy. When someone looks closely, they’ll see that you have one of the worst cases of dandruff ever.
Remote controls on the fritz
Pull the batteries from all the remote controls, and then watch their look of puzzlement when your kids try to change the channel.
Spare change prank
This April Fools' Day prank is as old as the hills, but it still works. Superglue some coins to the sidewalk or any spot that has a lot of people walking around. Watch people get frustrated when they can't pick up the coins.
Vaseline on the doorknob
Crisco will also work just fine. Slather on a little bit, and get ready to crack up when your victims are denied entry.
If you have a sink with a sprayer, put a rubber band around the handle when nobody's looking. This automatically keeps the nozzle in spray mode. Make sure the nozzle is pointing up and outward. The next person to use the sink will get an unexpected splash.
Add a few drops of food coloring to a colored container of milk. Your kids will end up pouring out green, red or purple milk on their morning Cheerios. It's harmless April Fools’ Day fun and the results are pretty colorful.
Grab the mail right after it comes, and then fill the box with shaving cream. Ask an unsuspecting family member to go get the mail, and surprise. The mail came, but not like on other days. There may be a small mess to clean up, but the surprise will be well worth it.
Place a raisin in the end of the toothpaste tube. When someone squeezes out the paste, they'll get what looks like a bug along with their minty glob.
Water balloons at the bus stop
Do you meet your child at the bus stop each afternoon? On April Fools' Day, greet the kids with a surprise water balloon barrage.
